The Dead Pool movies were probably my favorite. Followed very closely by anything Star-Trek. There are many reasons for this. For the Deadpool franchise it was the statement “It only takes 5 seconds to change some one’s life. This is so true. It really takes as little as a simple action to change someone’s life. This works both ways. It can take 5 seconds to destroy some one as well.
In an example, if you went up to a diabetic and told them that they were never allowed to have insulin ever again, do you think that you changed their life. No, I don’t recommend doing that, you may actually give them a heart attack.
Or how about telling some one that relies on any medicine that they can no longer have what they need. This falls under the denying medical care to people. I know that if I was no longer able to take my medicine for Bipolar, I may become a different person. Actually, I know that I would. I’ve been there and I didn’t like who I became. I also know that when I start getting low on those medications, I start to get very anxious, this just compounds the issue.
There are so many places that this can be true. This does not only happen when you deny treatment. It also happens when you change the cost, or the amount that you can get at any given time. But I digress.
Time to get to the nuts and bolts.
I have a coworker. This person has a history. I personally don’t condone this type of behavior, in fact when I found out , I tried to keep my distance, as I don’t want to be associated with that type of behavior. This person called me, on a Sunday, and they were in a bad place. Like a REALLY bad place. And at this moment, I knew, was the time to ignore any thoughts that I had about them. They were in a bad place and they needed help. I am by no means a person that is qualified to deal with this. But I know that I can if nothing else keep them from putting down the phone. So that is what I did. I kept them on the phone. I talked about stupid things, the weather, games they like to play, and their cat. Anything. And it worked.
That first 5 seconds is what it took. So, it does not take a hero, or any special effort. You my dear reader, may very well be in my place someday. You may even get that phone call from me. But right now you may think that the title is a little mis-leading. This was done this way for a reason.
This was so you could see the issue from a different perspective. While a problem does not seem major when they are on one side of it, and huge from the other. Just remember, the most important thing. Just take one day at a time.
